What it means to be an artist in the age of AI

Being an artist in the age of AI is quite difficult, especially knowing there will always be someone asking, "Why don't you just throw a prompt into an AI and ask it to generate something for you? Isn't that faster and better?" No, it is not. Yes, AI can generate images quickly, but it can never replace artworks created by humans. I've noticed most pictures generated by AI are quite bland; often just very "on the surface" with not much shading or highlights to make the piece more expressive, more in-depth, etc. When we humans create a piece of artwork, we often put in personal experiences, time and effort, emotions and messages we want to convey to the audience; on the other hand, AI lacks originality and authenticity. AI cannot create/make art; it can only remix something from its database, following the prompts it was given. I just really hate it when people choose to use AI over creating something on their own with their very own effort and experiences. It is the feeling that the hard work an artist puts in is being neglected and disrespected by the ones who choose to use AI over humans.
